Mosak's Meanderings:
The Therapist's Personal Problems
For one reason or another many therapists avoid seeking therapy for a personal problem. They sometimes seek shelter from the admission of personal problems by seeking a “didactic analysis” or therapy for “professional development.” Some feel, as therapists themselves, they should be perfect and free of problems (Not only patients are sometimes irrational.); others feel that people who provide insight should possess insight themselves. Besides, how can they help others if they’re so mixed up themselves? To all therapists, I ask you to remember that barbers can give everyone a haircut but themselves.
